What's the best way to do this? A university professor is going to be doing this, so please skew to the lowest common denominator. Quality has to be bangin. Free software is key.
Anyone who tells me to google it can suck my windstar. I have, and I know all about Open Office. 99% of the time there are formatting issues when saving in Open Office and opening in Powerpoint.

Power Point. It's not free but professors should have it through the university.
Anything that can generate an .swf will be your best friend, I think. Unless you want it to play back on an iPhone, in which case pounding sand will be the preferred option.
