Thread: Donut Get!

  1. Donut Get!

    Hey ya'll!

I just released a teaser trailer for a Flash game that I've been working on with some friends on and off for a few years. It's called Donut Get! It's the story of a cop overcome by greed when called to the scene of a donut store fire. Donuts rain from the heavens and everything gets out of control -- sorta like what was supposed to happen on May 21st.

So the game is like 3 games interweaved through a scenario. It begins with a short top-down driving segment, which was inspired by Spy Hunter. There's a segment where you catch donuts. And there's a Punch-Out inspired battle scene. The idea is that it's a short game but depending on your actions you end up with a different ending. Way of the Samurai was my major inspiration in that regard.

I've posted way back when about one of my first professional Flash games, Little Loki Escapes in Hell. And I had made a post in the "Have you ever developed any games?" thread. I'm realizing that I have to put more effort into getting the word out for my games since I tend to just lurk around the net, haha.

The game's still at least another 6 months away from completion. I'm planning for it to be a free web game like my other games at http://www.sokay.net. Any feedback would be appreciated!

  3. Hey ya'll!

A lot has happened since I first made this point, when the game was early and I mostly just had a trailer to show. It's been a long road, I quit my job doing Flash development a few months ago to finish up the neverending game.

Donut Get! is about a cop catching donuts raining from the sky. It's just 4 of us working on the game. Here's the cover art inspired by the OG NES box arts...

The game is about a cop getting a dispatch call to report to a scene of the donut shoppe fire. The game plays out the scenario with 3 different games.

This will all be free to play when it's released on July 4th, 2012! What's that? A week from now? haha! You'll be able to play it on Sokay.net and Donutget.com

Check out a playthrough video on YouTube to get a feel of what it's like.

We will be selling t-shirts and art prints for the game to make some money!

I've been showing my games during the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk since like November. I had the first public showing of Donut Get! and people seemed to like it! Even though it and the art left the with a "WTF is this???" look on their faces, haha!

I've been writing a devlog over at Tigsource forums if you wanna see what the process has been like.

Hit me up if you wanna check out the beta version before the release!

    Thanks for reading!

  4. It's not possible to get all the donuts, is it?

  5. Joust, initially I had a goal of making it possible to collect every donut but it turned out that it's just more interesting to have at some point, the screen flooded with donuts. But the game does have a determined level pattern . The donuts drop in the same pattern, and NPCs come out the same every time you play. It's not random.

ChaoofNee, thanks for mentioning Madbull 34. I checked it out, it looks crazy! I'm gonna show it to Matt, I think he'll get a kick out of it.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

Here's some more art from the game's cinema scenes...

When the game ends, Officer Browns report to his boss, The Captain. Who basically goes over how much you screwed up. How you play through the game affects his dialogue, or rather monologue.

We've got some friends of ours to do guest artwork for the game as well. Everyone does it in their distinct styles.

I'm kinda burned out with working on the game but we'll be putting the game up on donutget.com and Sokay.net on 4th of July. We intend to make some additional updates as we get time to polish things up a bit more. Things always take longer than expected!

  6. Donut Get! is now available to play on Sokay.net

There's still work to do, but Fuck It! It's good enough!

    Peace!
