Thread: Inner Dialog

  1. When I think, I like to think in one of these.

  2. Ah yes, the sensory deprivation scrotum.

I think in thoughts. They're not words, definitely not sentences or pictures or anything. I just think. More like concepts and ideas I guess.

I can talk to myself in my own head if I want to. I can make the voice sound like anything. I can play songs, look at pictures, and do math in there as well. This is probably referred to as imagination.

So, some people, when they look at something interesting like whatever, a fucking tree, they hear, in their head, their own voice saying "That's an interesting tree." That is fucking weird. Does it take time for your little brain man to relate that information, like the same amount of time it would take a person to read that sentence out loud? My thoughts are pretty close to instant from what I can tell.

    Also, lol reading out loud.

That thing is horrifying. How the hell do you breathe in it?

  7. I often use "dialogue" in my thoughts and when thinking of math problems or the like, I usually visualize the paper and the problem as it's being written (which makes it quite hard to solve complex problems in my head). I can read pretty fast, but generally at normal talking speed for regular reading and I can't count faster than I can out loud. I often think I make processes in my mind more difficult than they have to be by forcing some of my thoughts to be too detailed. When I was younger I could multiply and divide three to four digit numbers in my head without much difficulty but not so much now. I guess a lot of that has to do with continual learning though and changing habits.

I used to be able to process numbers faster than a calculator (for basic addi, sub, multi, and divide)

But I'm pretty bad out of practice these days. I can simply equations pretty fast though.

I guess it really depends on what you practice the most. I don't actually crunch numbers anymore. But I still have to fuck with huge equations.
