I hate carpet with a passion. Of course, go find any moderately priced house or apartment for rent that doesn't have that shitty brown carpet that attracts stains like a magnet. Give me wood flooring, any day.

And, as far as the carpet replacing, every landlord I have ever had insists on mentioning that "we just had the carpets replaced" when I have moved in. I'm thinking it may be one of those grey areas...if you have a slumlord, you get no new carpet. If you are renting from a property management company they may be a little more careful.

I absolutely love carpet. But, the more I think about it, the more I dislike it in a heavily rented apartment. House I own? Most definitely.
