This unfortunately looks boring as hell.
2013 Games Beat: 13
That stage at 2 minutes looks fucking awful. Too small!
Also I'm so fucking excited.
Good news: it looks like they're running back VF4:Evo's training mode -- which is still, to date, the best training mode in any fighting game ever made.
Bad news: Most of the customization items from the arcade version are going to be paid DLC. It's one of those things that shouldn't matter... but... yeah. (Granted, when you think how much arcade players have dropped in cabinets...)
it really doesn't matter unless you REALLY like playing dress-up... I'm sure they'll have a decent assortment of goods in the game itself anyway, if it'll be anything like vf5 was (also I'm pretty sure that there's no way the "10,000 dlc items" is solely going to be dressup items, some of that HAS to be shit like old game audio and match intro videos)
one thing I hope they do, but probably won't, is go back to vanilla vf4 style per-character custom character saves... it would be p. awesome to hit up a vf tournament and load your custom player (with w/l ratio and preconfigured input settings) up via a usb drive or flash memory card
So few fighting games this gen support loading custom character data from two separate profiles while offline. Glad VF5 is one of them!
I guess I was wrong about the game including some dress-up items! oh well, sega's gotta be sega I guess
Online Mode: up to 8 players, spectator mode included. Traditional options for room size, region, as well as to allow playable Dural
Customizable costumes: Because VF5FS is close to the maximum size allowed for DLC games, all items other than the defaults are not included in the game and are sold as DLC. Items will be sold separately and in packs.
Training: Options for throw escapes, evades, rising attacks/speed and struggle from guard breaks.
Replays: You can save offline AND online matches. Frame data, etc. will be included
License Mode: Tons of challenges as you fight the CPU. There's stuff like "all moves can be canceled", "half weight gravity" and "opponent health doubled", etc. Clear a challenge and get a special license.
Button configuration: You can set up the controller at the character select screen, and there's also a "button check" option too so you can check to make sure your buttons are properly configured and working!
Size limitations should be done away with and need to stop being an excuse. They could have easily just released it as Games on Demand like Capcom did with Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X and Sony wouldn't have cared how big it was.
