I'm always wondered if this series was held back mechanically because of Itagaki... but we already got an answer to that with DoA:D on the 3DS. With him gone, they have decided to stay the course. Honestly, I don't think the game will do very well in a saturated genre in a mature console market (since most of the previous DoA games came out near system launches and in a period when relatively few fighting games were made).
Have you played any of Team Ninja's games after he left? He was not the only sick fuck working there; not by a longshot.

Maybe they can add something to the gameplay that has stagnated since DOA2. You know, something more than stupid environmental damage and bad Aerosmith songs.
