Thread: The Owl - Feedback

  1. icarus should let the customers express their own political beliefs through the food. Example: bacon and eggs - the server shall ask the customer if they support gay marriage, if so, they get one egg and one bacon strip on the right side of the plate and two bacon strips on the left, cooked to perfection; if they say no, the two strips on the left will be charred under a flame of 190 grain alcohol.
It is good to carry some powdered rouge in one's sleeve. It may happen that when one is sobering up or waking from sleep, a samurai's complexion may be poor. At such a time it is good to take out and apply some powdered rouge.

  2. I actually think this is all interesting. This is the feedback for something the restaurant did.

It's undoubtedly bad business for me to have written that, but The Owl, on a philosophical level, is Much more than a restaurant. It's a vehicle for change. For real. I have multiple discussions every day about the way we run the business - extremely socialistically. Many people respond well to it. Some think I'm silly for "giving away money". My goals with the restaurant are no less than changing what people expect out of an inexpensive meal, and to challenge the way a business can be run. Which sometimes means standing up and speaking out against what I perceive as bullshit. I'm not telling anyone they can't eat here if they hate gays, and I'm not saying only gays can eat here. The post was written very precisely. It does not espouse heroism on us, nor hate on anyone else. It's a plainly written appeal to reason. But only that. An appeal.

Yes, there will always be factions like that. There will always be people who want abortion done away with. It will never happen.

If they aren't pro-choice then the egg is served raw.

  5. I think you're also forgotten the civil war. That happened because some rich southern bastards wanted to move backward, politically. They wanted to revert to a system that gave them more political and economic power than what they saw on the horizon.

How did that turn out for everyone?

Dividing the nation into a series of weaker powers was not that status quo. That would have been more like how it was previously with the colonies.

And I think we both know that the conservative idea of the line between the status quo and regression are blurred.

  8. I meant as far as keeping slavery going, but i realize that that wasnt really the impetus for the war.

The fun thing about owning your own business is that you can really say and do whatever you want, as long as it falls within legal limits (usually.)
That's the "bonus" for putting the money, work, and time into establishing a brick-and-mortar outlet for whatever goods you are selling. Sometimes it works out in your favor and you get lots of money and press for your beliefs and/or actions, sometimes it doesn't.

I definitely don't think it's bad business, icarus. In fact, the best thing that could happen is a creation of controversy around your restaurant - you'd get TONS of free press.

  10. The only problem is that when you argue against liberials, they blog against you.

You argue against conservatives, they burn your business and house down. Maybe even beat you to death and leave you in a ditch.

I don't think Ic has to worry about that because of a FB post. But conservatives are traditionally more aggressive.
