I would be more surprised if icarus didn't say something. From everything icarus has done with the restaurant, I've never seen him try to run his business for pure business. His manifesto has been fuck the establishment, this is how I want things to be. From how he chooses ingredients to how he pays his employees, to not taking reservations, he's made very deliberate decisions that do not follow typical business sense. A lot of people like that, especially the ones with similar opinions. They're going to support a person who is openly working for a cause over a business just trying to maximize profits.
The issue people have with issues being brought up by restaurants is that people go there for leisure, often to escape news and other more stressful things. A political diatribe or mandate can easily ruin that environment.
That being said icarus is very much running this restaurant for himself and makes no attempt to hide it. For the type of establishment hes running this probably helps his career more than anything.
I still don't see what the big deal is. A person said a thing. Yip-de-shit. You knew what kind of person icarus was from the beginning, and he's never been anything but 100% clear that his restaurant is an extension of himself.

Tonight we served Rumpus Punch! - a recipe we found written by Charles Dickens for Rum/Brandy/Black Tea punch.
and Hot Sauce Mac n' Cheese w/ Lava - bechamel sauce mac n cheese w 4 hot sauces, black pepper, cheddar and goat cheese, done souflee style (egged and baked). Xanthan gum'd hot sauce "lava". It's bullshit food, and not what we do, but was fun for a lark night.
You serve Rumpus Punch on the same day you openly support gay marriage.
Nice.
I'm heading to Raleigh, NC this weekend from WI for a 10 week contract. I'm seriously considering taking a detour out to The Owl. Maybe even a weekend visit. Looks to be about 4-5 hours away.
