Lesson learned today: Don't interrupt memtest. Alternatively, don't run memtest unless you actually need to.
Anyway everything is fine and the ram is running at 2133 according to the bios.

better lesson: run memtest off a usb drive or something
I did. I had to turn this "secure boot" option off to get it to boot from usb. That could have been the culprit. The bios is limited and weird.
I'm just saying, it's definitely not my fault. I am computer expert.
I decided to go with:
- Intel Core i5 6700K 4.00 GHz
- Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Kit
- ASUS ATX DDR4 Intel LGA 1151 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Motherboard (Z170-P)
- WD Blue 1TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch Desktop Hard Drive (WD10EZEX)
- Crucial MX300 275GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive - CT275MX300SSD1
The university tech said that most tower cases sold here come with the power supply and fan, so I'm set there. He'll be buying it using his tech account, so I may be able to put this whole thing together for less than $500.
I wouldn't trust a power supply that came with the case, that's where rejected power supplies go to die... get a separate one, and make sure it's at least 80+ bronze certified
I would second what Cka says, although I'd say go 80+ Silver. Honestly you can get a really good power supply for not too much money. You don't need a huge wattage one for what you're building and stuff in the 500 - 650 range is pretty affordable.
