Thread: Article: Remembering Patrice O'Neal

  1. Remember when everyone was a huge Heavy D fan last month?
You really can't act like I didn't talk the guy up just as much when he was still around. I always said Patrice was my favorite comic, I've seen him live so many times I lost count, met him 4 or 5 times, bought his DVD on day 1, and took it backstage to get it signed... I get that a lot of people jump on the bandwagon when someone dies, but I don't think that's a fair thing to insinuate in this case.

  2. Bandwagoners in general, really.

  3. Great write up, I miss him too!

  4. It's too bad that he was too lazy to eat right and exercise a little. No reason why dudes should be dying at 41 like this. This was preventable.

  5. You're right, he should have never gone vegetarian.

  6. Yeah, it's easy to make this about his weight, but his mother was 20 years older, and also severely diabetic and overweight and she's still around. Unlike most comics he's never done drugs or alcohol, and in his later years he actually lost quite a bit of weight and ate healthy. Preventable? Maybe. But he probably lived a healthier lifestyle than most comics, and they'll far outlive him. Some bad luck was certainly involved.

  7. Anyone can suffer a stroke. Let's not be dumb.

  9. He was very unhealthy, lets not pretend he wasn't.

  10. No one is pretending he wasn't unhealthy, but it's debatable how much of that was lifestyle.
