Thread: Under the Radar SNES/Genesis Games

I really like Sonic Wings, it's a hell or a lot cheaper than Aero Fighters for most of us. Also, Parodius is awesome, I've been meaning to get the SFC version, although for the price you could probably get the superior Saturn collection.

Most of my other SFC games are translated RPGs, so that doesn't help.

Jaki Crush if you are a fan of Devil's/Alien Crush
Pop N Twinbee??? Been forever since I've played it, not sure if it's held up
Macross Decent shooter, challenging in the later levels too.

There was a Super Famicom platformer based on Back to the Future I've always wanted to try despite Gamefan saying it's the worst thing ever.

I was thinking of playing a snes game I missed during the holiday.

    someone help me pick

    Live a Live
    Earthbound
    Metal Max Returns
    Shin Megami Tensei
Tactics Ogre ~ Let Us Cling Together

Recommendations? Also, I'd like to be able to put it down monday.

  4. Im not familiar with metal max returns. The rest are not games you only play for a day or two.

Live a Live is long? It always sounds kind of short when people describe it

I don't know if this is an issue unique to the Genesis, but I can just clearly demonstrate the problem here with a few screenshots. On the left you have a clear image of what the Genesis is actually outputting (this is how it looks in Component) and on the right, you have an approximation of how the game looks when accounting for the one-pixel wide bleed that is naturally produced by RF and and composite video. Notice the nasty horizontal bar effect on the left?

In some games (like EWJ) it's subtle. In others (like Duke 3D), it's utterly eye-searing in RGB.
Ran into another huge example of this, a weird Megadrive first person space sim with flat-shaded polygons called Star Cruiser:

  7. That's like... dither-shaded.
    Weird.

  8. That's just the beginning, eventually you go into space a la Star Fox.
