Thread: Completion Thread 2012: Hai! Dekimashita!

  1. 12.5) Proteus. Very similar to Dear Esther, in that you walk around an island, but unlike Esther it's short enough to not get annoying and there's things to discover, rather than be narrated at. It's getting a .5 because it's super-short and a beta, so "completion" only applies to this very early version. Still, I loved walking around and looking at stuff, figuring out which things made what noise, and what I could interact with and how. Very chilled, but short enough to remain interesting.

  2. 50. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood

Beat the Original Chi no Rondo off a digital copy of DXC on the Vita. Still pretty solid now. Nice music, presentation, the old animu is pretty terribad as is the subtitles (which are really inaccurate). Gameplay is OG CV, being locked in your jump arc and timing whip attacks. The Boss Rush against Shaft is the only thing that kept me on my toes, everything else was off of feel and memory of playing it years ago (but I don't think I ever beat the original, just the 3D remake). Didn't use Hydro Storm either. Music is still fantastic as are all the branching paths, giving it tons of replayability. You could tell this was the apex of Konami wanting to find ways to avoid copies of their CV games from going right in the bargain bin.

    #31 - Analogue: a Hate Story (PC)

Maybe not the best story but it is told in an interesting way. I'd say it's worth going through! For those who have never heard of it, you're basically going through the correspondence logs of a derelict Korean spacecraft that was meant to carry colonists to a new planet, only something went wrong and they ended up living on the ship, Wall-E style. You get to communicate with the AIs by showing them specific log entries which then lead to more entries, more story bits, and so on. Liked it!

  6. Asura's Wrath x2, but I'm not counting it until I finish everything. Took 2 nights for the initial beating.

True, but the point of using the axe is for the item crash, which uses few hearts and gives a few brief moments in invincibility when you otherwise can't escape a hit.

  8. 12 - Donkey Kong Country 3 - Definitely the weakest of the 3, and Kiddy Kong sucks compared to either Diddy or DK, but I do love the Swanky mini-games, and the soundtrack is really good.

  9. 13) Puzzle Agent 2. The ending of the story made no sense, with the agents just standing there letting Nelson do his thing, and the bonus puzzles for beating the game kind of suck, but I still hope they do a 3rd. It's a fun world and I wouldn't mind seeing more of it.

#32 - Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)

Easily the best Silent Hill game since the original trilogy and one of the best looking Wii games I have ever seen. Great use of pointer controls and creative use of the Wiimote speaker. The psychiatrist angle is pretty neat, altering the shape of your game in subtle ways (I just about shit myself at the payoff for the color in your house part because I was totally into it and did color the whole page, lol). There was ONE running away segment that played out like the Lost Woods except I couldn't find any discernible clue as to which door was the correct one to proceed, but that would be the biggest complaint against the game for me. I am very surprised at how much I loved this.
