Thread: Completion Thread 2012: Hai! Dekimashita!

  1. "Thanks! I'm gunna go butter up my pooper with it real good!"

Ok, now I have to play this game.

    2013 Games Beat: 13

  2. 4. Kid Icarus: Uprising - 3DS

GOTY? Not perfect, but incredibly entertaining from start to finish. Easily the system's best game and I don't see anything announced thus far dethroning it.

    5. Mighty Switch Force - eShop

    Not into it.

    6. flower - PS3

One sitting I think. Pretty good.

    7. Super Mario 3D Land - 3DS

Can't say I enjoyed this. Holding a button down to run for the entire game was okay on the SNES but doesn't cut it in modern times, especially with the 3DS's tiny, close-together buttons. If only there was a better way... Oh wait! The 3DS has one of those newfangled analog nub/slider thingies. How come Nints is terrified of it? Don't know.

I don't care what anyone says, the run-up to gain momentum is off in this game. I got used to it, but it never felt "right."

I got all the shines or stars or whatever. I thought there was supposed to be some ultra-hard final level, but I guess I'd have to play through all the stages again as Luigi? Yeah, no thanks. Shelving this gay thing.

    Yes, definitely.

THANK YOU. The momentum is totally busted and everyone else is like best game ever. And yeah, I wanted to see that last level, did like two stages with Luigi and put the game away forever. We are 3DS twins!

    7. Final Fight (PSN)

Since GohanX is probably enjoying my 360 version of this, I am glad the game went on sale for $5 on PSN. I continue to be impressed by how well this holds up, and the experience is further heightened by the excellent port. I wish the second game in the pack was anything other than Magic Sword though. Captain Commando or one of the licensed games would have been a much better choice.

    8/10

    8. Twinkle Star Sprites: La Petite Princesse (PS2)

This was somewhat of my white whale. Finding the first print at an acceptable price when I also had a means to play JPS2 games just never worked out. It was definitely worth the wait though. The original Neo Geo game is one of my all-time favorites, and this one takes that experience and really adds to it. First of all, the original game is unlockable, though it doesn't have all the cool extras the Saturn version does. However, the new game has both a story mode as well as character modes, so there's lots of replay value even without taking 1CCs and the like into account. Plus, there is a VS. mode that would have made this the best game on XBLA and PSN if SNKP had the sense to release it there. If this were hand drawn 2D instead of polygons, it would be a 10. As it is, it's a strong...

    9/10

    2012 Totals:
    1 3DS, 1 iOS, 1 PC, 1 PS2, 4 PS3
    2 - 6s, 1 - 7, 2 - 8s, 3 - 9s

  6. I've always had my eye on the PS2 Twinkle Star Sprites, too. I had no idea the original was on it.

  7. 11) Ys Origin
Completed Yunica's story- Level 50, 12:09:04:833 on Steam story mode leaderboard (595th).

The 2D sprite characters go well with the 3D backgrounds and bosses. I wish Falcom would have stayed with this 2.5D style for Seven, Nayuta no Kiseki, and the upcoming Ys Vita game. While Origin is a bit more linear compared to Felghana, it's still as good IMO.

Length is just fine. It's not too short, but Origin doesn't overstay its welcome either. As always, JDK brings an excellent soundtrack. Even the title screen's music is awesome enough to justify loitering there for a few minutes. My favorite stage BGMs are the tracks for Demonic Core and Guilty Fire.

One thought about Ys III and Oath: Part of Jim Power's first stage BGM might sound familiar, only with different instruments. Chris Huelsbeck had played Ys III and ended up with the lava pit theme "A Searing Struggle" stuck in his head.

PlayStation Move does what Kinect Kinnot.
    Finished in 2013: 10 games (360:1, PC: 6, Gen: 1, AC: 1, PSP: 1)

Hmm I forgot I had this, guess it's time to give it a playthru if only for the original music.

  9. Tron: Evolution - It was okay. Like a shittier Prince of Persia, but was worth the playthrough to me for the visual style and didn't overstay its welcome.

    #34 - Gravity Rush (Vita)

Charming, beautiful game. A lot of the reviews it's getting are kind of weird, I don't know what these people expected it to be. 100% trophies on this one since it was really easy to finish up.
