Thread: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

  1. You can buy backpacks!

    ...where, though?

  2. You can buy "packs" from merchants that expand your capacity by 10 each. I only found one so far, and yes, it's annoying. This game spams items at you at a rapid clip. Also: it leaves a bunch of junk in your inventory, such as defunct quest items. You have to perform inventory maintenance every so often to get rid of this. If you perform sagecrafting by combining shards into gems, it removes the shards that resides in a separate inventory which doesn't count towards your limit, and places them in your main inventory that does.....even more clutter. The inventory system isn't intuitive in any way whatsoever.

  3. You can buy backpacks from some merchants.

It's got some significant problems (Not being to just walk/climb up a ledge, the compass rotational thing, and a classic Who Gives a Fuck? Story), but I'm overall very pleased with it.

  4. Hit the 14 hour mark and find myself completely bored. Loot lust has failed me. There's just too much junk. I'm sick of dealing with it. I'd have to respec to get more variety out of the combat, but I think I hit the best build early on, and don't feel like I have much to look forward to leveling up. I have no idea what's going on in the main story and I really don't care. It doesn't have the right hooks to urge you on when the next places you need to go are so damn far away.

The world feels so static. I saved a town from this spider queen and it mattered fuck all. There are still spiderwebs all over the place. Finished the House of Ballads line and only changed how people address me. You'd think I'd at least get a new home out of the deal, but no. Just more junk not as good as what I'm using.

Skyrim did this to me also, but at least that took 60 hours. The world of Amalur is just a rotten design. Exploration feels like a chore, and the lore feels really shallow.

  5. EA is holding my save file hostage!

Don't have the Online Pass bullshit on my Xbox, but I was playing it for MANY hours on my girlfriend's console while she was at work. She has the pass.

...and now I can't access my save without buying the bullshit DLC!. Never really cared about the House of Valor or the bullshit ME3 cross-marketing suit that's useless to me now. Next time I want to play a game with one of these codes, I'll make sure to only play it on my console after I buy it used. ...or just not buy the game!

Thanks. Guess I learned a lesson!

  6. Oh, good! Even after I bought the DLC with an attitude of "never again," it refuses to load my saves.

    EA's lost a customer forever. c:

Guess I'll buy this on Steam sale and restart so my money can go directly to Mr. Curt Schilling and bypass these jerks altogether.

  7. Kind of have to echo Aaron's observations - after 30+ hours, I'm completely tired of picking up loot and having a full inventory one quarter of the way through a new location after having purged everything I possibly could in a town moments before coming to the location. The game isn't terrible, but something just isn't coming together for me and I find myself caring less and less if I finish this thing.

  8. That's how I feel about it too. I've spent about twenty hours now more or less forcing myself to play through it in the hopes that something is going to click, but my interest just continues to dwindle. It's not really that it does anything especially wrong (outside of the shitty inventory management), but it's all just so utterly bland, safe and derivative. I wanted to like this, but I just don't think it's going to happen.

Ah well. I can always play through Skyrim again.

  9. I beat it last night. Really Underwhelming ending.

I liked it for what I wanted it to be coming in - a dumb action-RPG.

    So, like Skyrim.
