Thread: New Neo Geo Portable

  1. Neo-Geo New Neo Geo Portable

Following its first failed attempt with Neo Geo Pocket, SNK is lending its name to a new portable gaming device.

Famicom Plaza has a look at at the new device, which carries official licensing from SNK Playmore. The device, currently going by the placeholder name of "Neo Geo Portable Device," has 4.3 inch screen, two gigabytes of internal storage, and ships with 20 Neo Geo classics built in:

    1.WORLD HEROES
    2.ULTIMETE 11
    3.TOP PLAYER'S GOLF
    4.SENGOKU
    5.NAM-1975
    6.MUTATION NATION
    7.LAST RESORT
    8.KING OF MONSTERS
    9.FRENZY
    10.CYBER LIP
    11.FATAL FURY SPECIAL
    12.ART OF FIGHTING

    19.KING OF FIGHTERS '94
    20.FATAL FURY
The games are all the North American versions with English.

According to the Famicom Plaza report, the device is 170x72x15mm and is a bit larger than an iPhone-like smartphone. It has a 2200mAh battery.

Controls on the device include four face buttons, a d-pad, four shoulder buttons, a menu button, a start button, and buttons for volume and brightness. Ports include headphones, AV and an SD.

No details yet on pricing or release date. Famicom Plaza's report does not list the maker.

If the selection of games weren't the same old shit that is on PSN, the PS2/Wii compilation, etc. I'd be interested. If I could hand pick 20 Neo games, it'd be a slam dunk.

Off the top of my head:

    Baseball Stars 2
    Blazing Star
    Fatal Fury Special
    Garou: Mark of the Wolves
    King of Fighters '98
    King of Fighters 2000
    Metal Slug
    Metal Slug X
    Metal Slug 3
    Money Puzzle Exchanger
    Neo Turf Masters
    Prehistoric Isle 2
    Pulstar
    Puzzle Bobble
    Sengoku 2
    Sengoku 3
    Samurai Shodown II
    Shock Troopers
    SNK vs Capcom (masochism)
    Twinklestar Sprites

If they get the d-pad right I'll be all over this. That being said, similar Genesis/SNES portable clones have pretty much all been crap.

Ooh, I glossed over that. Interesting.

GohanX, take some baby shower money and buy one so I can try it out.

Unlike those it is a licensed product, looks like a proper click stick too.

  7. Interesting... though, I'm not sure enough people still care about Neo Geo. :/

Yoshi: Sounds like a good excuse for another TNL Durham meetup!

  9. That looks like an iphone.

  10. I'm a sucker for portables and Neo Geo. I'll definitely buy it whenever it hits the states.
You don't have to be smart; you don't have to know the facts, you just have to be confident.
