What I get out of TNL board is that we're all knowledgeable about most anything to the extent we want to care about it. The few people left who write insightful posts on a subject usually do so in a language that makes sense to them alone without consideration if anyone else can really understand it. The posts aren't dumbed down. Icarus talks about his food as he wants to talk about it, and only explains things if you ask. Ramon and Anthony discuss fighters using terms and acronyms which most anyone else would need a dictionary to decipher. Gooch writes about the economy as he understands it. My blog posts about me playing IIDX probably don't make any sense to anyone here except Tain and Compass, but I write them as I would want someone else who plays the game like I do to write them. I think this specialized knowledge and passion is what makes the board distinguished.
What I get out of TNL podcasts is that you are making great pains to ensure that everyone is on the same page to understand what the discussion is about and the basis behind opinions, and I see this as contrary to how the board functions. A few times I noticed people refrained from mentioning a game to expound upon the discussion topic, because "I'm the only one who played it" - well who fucking cares! Most of us here aren't idiots. We can look things up and pause a podcast to look things up if we need to, or replay the podcast otherwise. If you want to bring up something that you deem relevant to the conversation, do it, and get to the crux immediately. You don't need to spend a quarter or more of your air time to re-establish the basic facts about your topic. We can go to literally thousands of other places if we want to get the rudimentary facts about something. I think what makes you all unique is your individual and combined experience in these things, and it is that perspective and diversity of opinions which is what should be the focus of the show.
I think Mzo ends up talking most of the time because he seems to have the highest emotional response to most any topic at hand and has something to instantly respond with at all times; and even if every tenth game is The Worst Game Of All Time according to him, that's at least something more interesting than polite indifference. If the rest of you think Mzo needs to shut up, give him a reason to - counter his statements with your own, interject over him more often, talk him down, and fight fire with fire. If the show is to be about virtually sitting at a round table with a group of pals to bullshit about games, then get to that part and stay at that part, and quit assuming we'll get lost along the way.
You should also consider liming the speaking cast to three main persons and one guest at most. I would think there would be more liberty in speaking if people weren't concerned about fairly sharing time and giving adequate chance for everyone to respond.
Mzo talks the most because Mzo loves to talk. Us RFers have known this for years.
