Supreme Court to Decide if Schools Should Actually Base Admissions on Merit

Say good bye to affirmative action in college admissions.

This shouldn't surprise anyone, as it hasn't been about equality in at least 20 years.

Maybe next we can apply the same common sense and base teacher and other government employee tenure and pay on merit to make sure the people in jobs are the ones most qualified for them.

You're right Yoshi. Minorities in this country have been lifted up to equal footing with the majority. There really isn't a need to help them out anymore...

  3. Does this include legacy admissions as well? Because if it doesn't, it's a farce.

You'll never be able to fully weed out legacy admissions.

Hell, "merit" based admissions in some forms are nothing but legacy based admission standards in disguise.

After a certain point you're only going to see point increases on standardized test from taking prep classes and constantly practicing. And who has the money and time for either? Rich families. Or what about "extracurricular activities?" Gee, I wonder which families have the most time to cart their kid around to all kinds of feel good "help your community" actives? Which kind of families have money for all kinds of clubs like ballet classes and the like? So by saying you admit on merit by requiring high standardized test scores and positive extracurricular activities, you actually weed out the lower and lower middle class and show favoritism to the wealthy.

If you remove these considerations for the sake equality, you end up making things unequal. Kids from poor communities do not have the resources necessary to have stellar admissions forms.

    I agree with you there.

  6. So, we should outlaw the wealthy?

Hell, let's outlaw the poor, too.

    Also, the minorities... majorities...

Hell, nobody should be allowed to have rights but me.

Hey, I should run for president on the Republican ticket!

  7. Government is so bad at this shit.

I'm completely okay with this decision. Now, just equalize the resources and quality of education available at primary and secondary schools so that students have equal opportunities to become competitive candidates.

We probably should stop funding public schools with property taxes. That is just one more way for people to skirt responsibility to the education of the country.

Poorer areas have lower property taxes, thus smaller school budgets, and thus lower education quality. This is one big reason poor states stay shitty despite all the out of state aid they get. Schools still receive a great deal of their funding from the taxes of the poor/stupid people around the school. If the land owners stay poor and property taxes stay low, the school budget stays low.

People need to stop fucking worrying about kids passing shitty standardized test and worry more about getting all children in America the educational tools of the best schools in the country.

And if the US doesn't fix this problem, we're done. Asia will surpass us and we will be something romantic that people talk about in history classes in other countries. The U.S.'s greatest export at this moment is science and entertainment. We can not afford to lose the battle of the intellect.
