Thread: Tex Murphy Kickstarter ($612,000! Project Fedora in 2013)

  1. Hah, apparently they got the Soup Nazi to do a video for them, but by the time they could get it up they already went over their goal so they didn't use it:

  2. This continues to be the most entertaining kickstarter campaign ever. The goofy ass kidnapping plot was a lot of fun.

More pledge matching by rich kids. Give now.

Also prize raffles for anyone who gives or raises $15 or more, or anyone who has already given $75 and up. Yay.

  3. Yeah, they're going to make it for sure now. I'm excited about the real orchestra and golf stuff!

They had been pacing updates pretty well, but I guess they got a little carried away yesterday. Also they did seven in one day when they had the "Magnificent 7" thing, but that's because they thought that shit would take like a week and it took 12 hours.

Last day is today. Less than two thousand left to the final stretch goal, so pretty much guaranteed. VERY EXCITE.

  6. Final total is around $612,000 including about $14,000 in paypal donations. Amazing. Even after fees and fulfillment, that gives them like over $800,000 for the game.

Which, I guess, is still not a lot of money, but they say it's enough to make the biggest, best Tex game ever and that's good enough for me.

  7. Only 4 more Kickstarters left for me and done for a while, now that this is complete. Pinball Arcade ends tomorrow, Sullivan's Sluggers ended a few hours after Tex, Skyjacker still has a good run left in it, and Crystal Catacombs is on track to exceed its initial failed funding goal from last year.

  8. Skyjacker looks really good. I think their main mistake, ironically, was setting too long of a term. Shorter kickstarters tend to succeed at higher rates because people are less likely to procrastinate about backing.

I'm more or less done. I backed Sam Suede because I think it's shitty what happened to them, but I don't think it will make it and won't really be following it too closely either way. There's really nothing on the horizon I feel passionately enough about to back.

Until Toejam and Earl or Wonder Boy launch, anyway.

  9. The thing about Skyjacker is their first attempt was a short Kickstarter and failed, but the longer term is actually working out for them. I agree that shorter is usually better, but in this case not so much.

I'll be keeping an eye on Kickstarter, because fun odds and ends can still turn up, but the big push is complete. For now.

For the adventure genre in particular, what happened in the last 5 months is almost fantasy-levels of awesome. If I had an adventure game-granting genie, I probably would have wished for almost the same games. Except maybe Neverhood 2 instead of Jane Jensen, and a new LSL instead of a remake.
