Roger Clemens is a buffoon, an obvious 'roider, and a huge gaping asshole. He's easily in my top 10 list of least favorite athletes.

That said the prosecution was a ridiculous waste of time and taxpayer money. It wasn't so much that he lied to Congress - he obviously did - but why was Congress getting involved in this in the first place? Now - obviously the government needs to treat perjury seriously. ButP the evidence was obviously highly dubious and there was no chain of custody.

This is not going to be a losing season. They'll take one of the bullpen guys and make him a starter, the guy from last year who should have stayed a starter this year I forget his name. Alvarez will figure it out or he won't. Morrow will be back eventually. McGowan may even make it back. And even Cecil may shock you if he gets a little run support. And that's not even taking into consideration any moves that AA might make to bring in an experienced pitcher. The guy you have to worry about is actually Romero, who is already having trouble and may try to do everything himself from now on.

Anyway, Dontrell Willis just got released, they may bring him in for a looksy. And I think Carlos Villineuava, who was the guy I was talking about earlier but whose name I could not remember, is going to be put into the rotation very soon.

All of it is a huge waste of taxpayer money. Even if these guys are found guilty, they're getting light sentences. I really don't understand why the government decided to get involved in the first place. Steroids really aren't that serious of a problem.

Anyways, the Phillies season gets worse and worse. The Chase Utley replacement, Freddy Galvis (who recently broke his back taking a swing) was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for a PED. The PED in question is supposedly a weak steroid and can trigger false positives, yada, yada, yada. The guy was a great fielder but was an unlikely candidate for failing a drug test (he was hitting .226 with 3 HR's). It's impossible to tell who is lying and who is telling the truth. I'm starting to think that the league should just start looking the other way again when it comes to amphetamines and steroids...it at least levels the playing field. Half of the league has waivers for amphetamine use anyhow (Adderall and Dexedrine).
