Josh mentioned Yngwie Malmsteen in another thread and it got me thinking about some of the other impressive axmen that have awed me with their über-talent. Here are a few that come to mind:
Steve Vai from the G3: Live in Denver DVD. The audio here's kinda shitty.
Eric Johnson performing his classic Cliffs of Dover.
Pat Metheny performing on his abomination, the Pikasso 42-string guitar.
Prince putting all of the old farts on stage to shame (meaning no disrespect to George Harrison, rest in peace). A tip of the hat to Hubbitron for originally posting this one.
Metallica's One. I had to include this because it's one of my favorite songs of all time and I love Kirk Hammett's solo work on the track.
...because without the bitter, baby, the sweet ain't as sweet.
This thread sucks.
QUIET OLD MAN! Here, this video features a man battling himself as a puppet, and his puppet self wields a Hello Kitty guitar.
2013 Games Beat: 13
This is my favorite guitar player that is still alive.
This thread is fucking awesome. That Nitro video is exactly why I started it. Definitely gets 5 out of 5 Bill & Teds:

I'm diggin' Behold... The Arctopus. I think they're worthy of further investigation. The Flying Luttenbachers bring Squarepusher to mind for some reason. Granted he's an IDM artist and they are decidedly not, it must just be the manic choppiness of that tune.
I actually think I want to see what all of the fuss is about regarding Guitar Wolf. Those photos from the Post Your Pictures thread look fun. And I have nothing but respect for a guy like Seiji who literally sacrifices his body for his art while seemingly enjoying every minute of it.
Pineapple, dude, that video was absolutely superlative! Hilarious, too!Gonna have to look into this Devin Townsend. He also gets 5 out of 5 Bill & Teds:
