I am going to try to play these in order, so I fired up Ys Origin after it downloaded today. I'm playing on Nightmare as the Holy Knight chick. I really like it so far, though I am really early. It's like Zelda would be if Zelda were good. I haven't played anything past III in this series, so it's going to be pretty awesome playing all the new versions and what not.
