Thread: Commodore Founder Jack Tramiel Dead

  1. Commodore Founder Jack Tramiel Dead

I'm semi-surprised no one made a post about this.

Unless they have, in which case: whoops.

  2. #2
It was mentioned in the SO Dead Thread.

I wonder who will be next between Ralph Baer and Hiroshi Yamauchi.

  3. My bad. Though I sorta thought it warranted it's own thread.

If Steve Jobs can get a thread created about his death, why not Jack Tramiel?

Commodore pretty much revolutionized the home computing market, when they release the C64. You could say that it forced IBM to look beyond computers in the office environment, and create computers for users within their home.

I had a C128. Nice stopgap between the 2600 and the SMS. I always will remember looking at the graphics on the back of the boxes at Toy'R'Us, being blown away, then getting home with the game and realizing they were Amiga screens.

  9. Ah, fond memories of trading games in the school computer room back in the day. Insert source disc, insert destination disc, insert source disc, insert destination disc, insert source disc, insert destination disc...

Oh, and I remember the money-saving best trick of all: turning single-sided floppy discs into double-sided discs with a hole-puncher!

    Fuck yea, I'm old.

  10. If anyone is interested, here's a youtube video (1 hour and 28 minutes long) celebrating the 25th anniversay of the C64. The show features Jack Tramiel, talking about the C64, and how he got his start in the industry.
