The look of the NSMB games doesn't bother me but Low is right in saying each new one used to have its own art style. So much for pushing for visual creativity. It does appear as though they have just given up. Like I said before, as long as the versus mode from the DS game is in there, I will be very happy.

I don't understand why Zelda always gets this sweeping visual overhaul every game, but mainline Mario games, gee, we can't dare deviate from the same character target renders we've been using since 1996.

I liked this article, and it points out something surprising if you don't think about it: There have been as many proper Mario games in the last seven years as Call of Duty games if you include this one:

After 17 Super Mario titles in the first 27 years of the series' life to date, six have now appeared in the last seven: New Super Mario Bros. (DS, June 2006), Super Mario Galaxy (Wii, November 2007), New Super Mario Bros. Wii (November 2009), Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii, June 2010), and then the 3DS duo. That's the same number of instalments as we've seen in the Call of Duty series, at least until Black Ops 2 is unveiled.

The thing is, each Call of Duty is functionally identical, while the differences between the Galaxy series (and 3D Land is similar to Galaxy) and NSMB is huge.
