Probably, but do you have an ancient Mac or Atari computer to play it on?

  2. I played Shadowgate all the time back in the day. I hated it. Well, hate is probably too strong a word, but it was really punishing and the constant reminding of various time limits annoyed the crap out of me.

NES Rush 'N Attack was another one I could never bring myself to like.

  3. There is no way that childhood me would have appreciated Air Fortress. That being said I'm 3 levels in and LOVING IT.

I've spent all afternoon playing the shit out of various games. Feels good, man.

I couldn't get the "shout into the mic to kill pols voice" thing to work in Zelda. Fuck you and your microphone, Nintendo.

Played some Doki Doki Panic, and although it's a great game, SMB2/USA is better. The only thing Doki has going for it is the ability to save. Speaking of which, the only way to save that I can find is to lose all your lives. I discover this after getting 15 extra lives.

Castlevania on FDS is identical to the NES game, so we didn't miss anything here. The game is short, so saving really isn't necessary.

Kid Dracula is FUN! But it's a lot more Megaman than Castlevania.

  5. I'm fairly certain that NES CV has a few additional/different music tracks over the FCDS version.

It seems the same as I remember, but it's been a while since I played in on NES. One of the reasons I got the FDS version is I can't seem to find my NES cart.

On the repro front, I did a little test. Not really a repro, but the work is the same. I took a US and a JP Famicom cartridge and swapped the rom chips, as a practice run before I try something more valuable (I have three SMB3 carts.) It works fine, although desoldering the chips is a PITA since my desoldering pump is too large for these litttle Famicom chip pins.

Up next, Kid Dracula in English.

  7. Just scored Castlevania (completing my set) off eBay for $8.

    Now... can you beat it?

I had a hell of a time beating Dracula yesterday. He's not really difficult once you figure out what to do, but it's a bitch the first few times. It's one of those battles where you will die horribly several times, until you beat him without getting hit.

Frankenstein's monster is the real fight in that game. You get past that flea man son of a bitch Igor and you're good to go.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

Protip: Use holy water. When used effectively, holy water breaks the game.
