Just double-checked this out of curiosity - no combat cross confirmed. The whip is just red energy that he conjures out of his hand. Still fuckin weird to see Drac fighting with a whip, either way. In the finished product, he'd better at least have the move where he lifts his cloak and shoots fireballs out of it.

Intriguing how the trailer presents Gabriel-Dracula as ostensibly the hero (or at least, power fantasy fulfillment character) we'll be playing as, then has apparently-Alucard show up at the end. Is the whole story going to be told from the "villain's" POV? Is presenting Drac as the protagonist a fakeout, and we'll actually be playing Alucard? Or (best option imo) are they going the Legacy of Kain route and alternating between the two, offering two different gameplay styles and showing how each has, if not justifiable, at least sympathetic reasons for what they do?

This would actually be really sharp if they had you playing as the good guy and alternating it with the bad guy for every other section of the game. They could give you the choice during the final section on which side you would choose to play as. I think that would be really bad ass though I doubt it will ever happen.

I can't remember where I read it now, but in addition to the PC version mentioned in the PC thread, this is officially a 2013 title now. I'm not surprised, as this never had a 2012 date, but I am still disappointed. Here's hoping the PC version is day one.
Countdown to the de facto end of the console generation: 5 exclusives
Most recent: Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut (4/30)
Next up: The Last of Us (6/11)
Later: Puppeteer (9/10), Beyond: Two Souls (10/18), Rain (TBA), Until Dawn (TBA)

Edited the title, because there is "no chance" of a Wii U version now. I am relieved they are still confirming a PC version though.

edit: The originally mentioned Vita version also appears to have disappeared.

  6. lol, wtf is going on with WiiU

I have to wonder how many projects really are being made for this thing. I don't see this game selling all that well, though.

  7. The Crysis kids said today that C3 won't be coming to Wii U due to lack of business drive.

    I LOVE IT.

Lords of Shadow 2 will also be set across two timelines with the bulk of the game set in modern day environments that have been sculpted to resemble the gothic Castlevania aesthetics well all know and love (remember, the "blank of Sorrow" Castlevanias took place in the future, but you'd never know it).

The magic system has been mildly adjusted, too. You'll still have a focus meter in which you're rewarded for combos, parries, and not taking damage, but instead of getting light and magic orbs you get "Dracula's Blood" a resource that can be channeled into the Void Sword or Chaos Claws. These essentially fill the function of light and dark magic from Lords of Shadow with the Void Sword attacks replenishing your health while the Chaos Claws pack a bigger punch and can smash through enemy shields.

The experience system has been slightly changed via the new Mastery System, in which you'll be able to level up certain skills by using them a lot.

I'm leery about that last paragraph. The last thing we need is to turn this into a Metroidvania, where leveling ruins the game.

Speaking of, what's the point to the whip upgrades in the old Castlevanias? I submit that there is not one.

The chain whip is twice as powerful as the keather whip, and the second upgrade makes it longer. Pretty irrelevant since it pretty much gives you maximum whip instantly.
