I changed that to start immediately. Changing special attacks is L and R bumpers. I was also considering special on B, that wouldn't be so bad.
That's what I was thinking of doing. That makes a lot of sense.
The PSP games always mapped the buttons to the equivalent of A for Jump, X for attack, B for Special and Y for Boost. I got used to it, but it was REALLY damn awkward.
Also awkward is clicking Right Stick to bring up Inventory. Odd placement.

My Backloggery
Here's my layout on the Hori RAP EX-SE:
B X Y LB
A LT RT RB
B to attack, X to jump, Y for magic, A to boost. Start for the inventory, and Back as the walk button.
I'm using LT & RT to switch powers. One more bonus is that Steam's version doesn't require fucking around with Joy2Key to remap the arcade stick (treated as a POV hat) to keys.
I took down the constructor boss with 1 hit point left. *cue Tekken announcer saying "Great!"*
