Namco Bandai Opens Tekken Museum in Osaka

If any game franchise has ever deserved a museum, it's Tekken. Looks like TNL's Undisputed #1 Game Of All Time is finally getting the place in history it so richly deserves.

Some game franchises have special shops or cafes devoted to them. Tekken gets its own museum.

The Tekken Museum will open tomorrow as a special corner of the Osaka Nihonbashi namco. Visitors to the museum can view goods, figures and artwork from the series. The museum has also been set up with life-size figures of your favorite Tekken fighters. Admission is free.

Namco Bandai will hold a grand opening event tomorrow. Visitors will be able to take part in a tournament and also meet top Tekken players.

Fans of the franchise who are entering the special tournament to commemorate the museum’s opening will be able to recieve tips from WCG Tekken Champion Novi (ノビ) and top female Tekken player Yuyu (ゆうゆう) at the launch event.

In addition to the launch event, the museum will also hold mini tournaments every second and fourth Sunday of the month during which players can receive special prizes. The items showcased at the museum will also be switched monthly, so it’s worth more than just one visit. Best of all, admission is free.

A museum tracing the evolution not only of the series but of the influence it had on arcades and the chronological development of the style through crappy old clones to Galaga to Espgaluga to whatever's next in the vertical shooter genre would be far more interesting than a promotional stunt.
