Kournikova was a great player, but the criticism was that she never came close to number 1 and never won any major titles, yet she got endorsements, celebrity, etc. Can your average person name a female tennis player that's not Kournikova or the Williams sisters?

Is that person interested in tennis? If not, probably not (outside of Sharapova, who is both a great player and very beautiful). But that's just how it is. Good looking people get more attention and have certain advantages in all walks of life.

Kournikova was a better player than the criticism let on. Like Lolo Jones apparently, I think she got a lot of heat for being a pretty person and a decent player.

It is good to carry some powdered rouge in one's sleeve. It may happen that when one is sobering up or waking from sleep, a samurai's complexion may be poor. At such a time it is good to take out and apply some powdered rouge.

  4. Jamaica makes it a clean sweep in the 200 finals. I totally didn't text my sister to tell her that. My mom totally didn't call my sister at work to gloat.

I think that's what the NYT article is pointing out. Ah well.

Except it's not exactly fair to single out one particular good-looking person, especially if that good-looking person happens to be good enough to make the Olympic team.

Not fair, but a point's a point. And no one is saying she's not good enough to make the Olympic team. That has nothing to do with it. She's just not as good as her teammates, but treated like it's the other way around. The NYT article is just pointing that out.

    sharapova.

and if I spelled her name wrong it proves I never looked it up ... or I'm a Buttcheeks dupe account.

edit: totally didn't see Diff's post.

Sharapova is an awesome player, though. If anything, I'm surprised she's not more popular.
