Thread: What Prevents You from Getting Down for a Few Hours of Hardcore Gaming?

  1. Everything else. Unless there's a game I REALLY need/want to beat or am excited about (Mass Effect being the most recent one), I just feel like I should be doing something else more productive/enjoyable than playing a game for the sake of playing a game.

It's just me getting older. I'd rather spend a whole day listening to music, reading books, or dicking around on the internet in my leisure time. I also think I've become... disgusted by the immaturity of most games and am no longer excited by the trite stories. They're not as fulfilling.

  2. Family stuff and work, mostly. My gf and I like to go out when we have free time, and I set aside a part of the day for her daughter as well (we'll watch shows or play a game she likes). I generally have more time to myself on off weeks when the kid's at her dad's house, so that's when most of my serious gaming gets done.

  3. Kid, wife, work.

    This.

The baby is sleeping through the night now, so I usually stay up a few hours after she sleeps and game or do a project. I should probably sleep more, though.

  5. This is me 100%. Lily is down by 8, after that it's free time til 7:45AM. I should sleep more though.

Motorcycles are more interesting than games.

I'm getting to that same place.

There are bigger hobbies that require a lot more money that I want to do. And gaming A. eats up packets of money in sizable chunks. And B. eats up time that could be spent on the other hobby or learn things that could help you get promoted to more money or hired somewhere else for more money.

It could be travel, working on your house, finding a better house, cars, bikes, etc.

Gaming kind of feels like the 'chocolate cake' of hobbies. Its easy and quick. But if you eat enough chocolate cake you will get fat and not want to do other things. You also won't want to eat your vegetables. BUT, if a fine chef makes a super awesome chocolate cake, you are still going to want to try it. The problem is that too many companies are trying to pass off Hoste's Ding Dongs as fine chocolate cake, $60 Ding Dongs

I'll still ruin my friends at Street Fighter whenever I get a chance, but it's not a priority.
