I'm proud to say I have never owned a model 2 Genesis or Sega CD. Those are both for n00bs.

Model 2 Sega CD is indestructible. I prefer it vastly to the 1.

I have a couple of model 1's, they are packed up. I left the model 2 out since it is tiny, and it is the revision with good sound. Thanks ssjn!

Model 1 Sega CD is too fragile. Because of it, I inherently distrust any system with a tray.
From Sega CD to 3DO to Xbox to 360, tray loaders always become an issue.

Until the laser decides one day that it simply doesn't want to read discs anymore. Both my model 2s have done that.

Change the gear belt and it's good as new. Model 1 Sega CD is a sexy machine.

... and suddenly my model 2 CD decided to work yesterday! I took advantage and played some Chuck Rock 2 and Keio Flying Squadron.

And for shits and giggles, someone got Starfox running on the stock Genesis:
