Metal Slug is too sweet.
maybe not worth its own thread, but I saw this today on a history blog I watch
This is the only known recording of Hitler's natural speaking voice. He is talking to Finnish military commander Mannerheim in 1942. You can read more about the meeting, here.
The bizarre thing about that recording is how normal and thoughtful he sounds. He doesn't sound crazy like he is seen in film and parody. He doesn't sound stupid as claimed in many biographies from people that were under him or by ambassadors that met him. He sounds like a normal and educated man. Which makes what he did and caused even more frightful. That those events might not be the product of a deranged or unique person. But something that any person could cause.
Secondly, contrasting his natural presence with his political presence shows an interesting insight into how modern fame works. I really have to wonder how much of 'the speech' Hitler was a cultivated character. Was the famous Hitler mostly made up? Just a mix of acting, handlers, and speech writers? Or were they both real? And to what degree? Which was more real?
Nothing is real, man.
(not trolling)
We are only as real as we want to be. Our ability to understand time and how people perceive us, gives us the opportunity and desire to behave in a way outside of how we really want to behave.
But in acting in a way that is not true to ourselves, we become a simple string of heartless motions. Like an act, much like the act in a play. One that appears real to the observer but is nothing but an empty shell. Perhaps that is why traditional religions, ethics and mores have almost unanimously condemned lying. Perhaps the wise men knew that it destroyed the 'self' and made people into soulless automatons moved only by their hunger to acquire?
Many people have argued that fiction of any given period will show what that period fears. Maybe, right now, we fear those soulless automations the most? Those fake lying assholes that would eat us alive if it would give them what they wanted today?

Itt: bonged out
Covered in the post you quoted from.
Hitler didn't drink, didn't smoke, I think Adam Ant wrote a song about him.
