The only reason to keep an old PC like that is for compatibility with old software or peripherals.
I used to keep an old Dell Pentium Pro desktop around for programming micro controllers through the serial port, since the software I used ran in DOS and didn't play nice with Windows and USB serial adapters.
It was also handy for flashing GBA flash carts using the parallel port.
