Thread: Windows 8 - Thoughts.

  1. Windows 8 - Thoughts.

Availability is coming around the corner for the general public (October 26th) and was wondering your thoughts/opinions. I've had the TechNet release installed for a few weeks now and am enjoying the fast response the UI has and bootup times (SSD installed on boot part).

Getting to where you need to get too seemed a little odd at first but once you know where to put your mouse cursor and if your keen with windows shortcuts the UI seems faster and easy to navigate.

    I'm digging it.

  2. I'd still prefer to have the option of avoiding metro altogether.
I've been using a highly simplified version of the classic windows interface for several years and I see no reason to stop.

  3. The old start menu is gone for good so that might be a stickler for users like yourself.

    Thoughts on Windows 8?

    3.1 > 95 > 98 > XP > 7 > OSX

  5. The Windows key on the keyboard now plays commercials when you hit it.

My main computer at home is now OSX, work one is the 8.

  7. Windows 8 is a skip for me. But I have no real problems with 7 other than it needing a makeover, so I'm just going to treat this one like Vista or ME.

I like the Metro aesthetic, but this whole two-interfaces thing is just not going to work, and once MS fails in the tablet space like the have in the phone space, maybe they can go back to concentrating on the market that makes them money.

    You never know.
There will be plenty of demand for a shell replacement.
    LiteStep might finally become relevant.

  9. Everyone using a Windows machine will be on Windows 8 or successor, sooner rather than later.

People thinking that Windows 7 will be another XP that MS will be supporting in 2020 are fooling themselves.

  10. Not interested, and this comes from some one who loves Windows 7. Much like how I skipped Vista and stuck with XP, I'll be skipping 8.
