Thread: Star Wars: Episode VII

  1. #1001
Yeah they are really, really good and the prequels are really, really bad.

  2. #1002
The prequels ruined any chance of me being excited about this. I got stoked, helplessly so, about each prequel in turn and was horribly disappointed every time. None of those movies merit a rewatch at all. There is no way VII is going to be as good as mad max fury road was and even that movie was tired after three views. We aren't going to get an all time classic out of Abrams. We aren't.

  3. So what?

  4. Breaking news: a popcorn flick in your 30s will not resonate as much as a popcorn flick as a kid. Further updates as progress warrants.

So...that's really disappointing? It's a potentially rich universe that could be used to tell interesting stories and spur the imagination, and instead it's a cliche and pandering cash engine designed to appeal to the easily bedazzled and uncritical, banking on universally recognized imagery of six previous movies.

It could be something special but seems like it will be mediocre...I think that's worth lamenting or pushing back against in most scenarios, especially those that will be affecting millions of people. Why are you so against people trying to enjoy things on any level beyond the superficial?

I'd rather go in with high expectations with the chance they'll be fulfilled, then cap my expectations and have them just met.

It's disingenuous to say that's the only factor.

  7. At least he cares about something!

  8. Is liking the Ewoks a bad thing? I don't know shit about these other than seeing them as a kid and liking the Ewoks. I've seen some hate.
    Boo, Hiss.

  9. People who were Hrd in their 20s when they saw Jedi hate them apparently. I like 'em ok. Murder Bears.

  10. No, they're incredible. They can create anti-armor traps, within minutes, using nothing but their environment, they easily overpowered and captured the most effective squad in the rebellion, they can pilot speeders with only half the required interfaces, and they can understand complex narrative with nothing but words they don't understand and sound fx. I think it's pretty obvious why Lucas replaced Wookies with Ewoks in RotJ, considering Chewbacca spends most of the original trilogy in handcuffs.
