Had the Republic sent an ex-Stormtrooper and a Force sensitive scrapper to fight him, I suspect Maul would have stayed in one piece. It took a fluke for him to be taken down by a Jedi Master and an exceptional Padawan.

edit: Every single one of the Jedi who got 30 seconds of screen time in Episode II would kick Kylo Ren's ass.

No shit anybody in the prequels would have kicked Ren's ass. The entire point of his character is that he is pretending to be more than he is.

This is not a knock against the character. This is good writing. It is OK that Ren is much weaker than Maul. Not everything has to be more and more and more powerful.

I get that, and it fits with why the general gets irritated when both he and the whiny bitch go before their boss. That doesn't mean I have to like or have any respect for the character. I was never much of a Luke fan either, so the comparison someone made is apt.

No, you missed the point. Screw I-III. Nobody cares about Darth Maul. Nobody cares about those movies. They were trash.

Oops. I forgot about the Trade Federation comment, though there is no villain in the original trilogy that makes a reasonable comparison. Maybe Greedo.
