I wonder if the buttcheekses of 1967 were afraid Warner Bros' Bonnie and Clyde was going to be too much like a Bugs Bunny short.
I guess Luke was supposed to be the new bad ass Jedi in town. And we never got to see him be that. So I was hoping to see some old Luke busting ass.
The new trailer got me all jazzed up—historically I haven't ever cared about Star Wars. I thought the first 3 were cool but by the time I appreciated them they were old. The new ones weren't great and everything was CG so I didn't give a shit about any characters. This new one looks like it contains the spirit of the first while utilizing all of the technology and advancements in cinematography (things look pretty) made in the last 20 years.
Now I'm reading that Luke might be the bad guy of this movie—and the one doin' the killing. I highly suggest you don't read that POTENTIAL spoiler if you get all uppity about that kind of stuff. My Sunday morning has been an intense emotional rollercoaster ride.
The threads with people ignoring his insanity eventually get back on track.

I think I'm jazzed up because the movie looks very pretty. The white of the storm troopers and the red/black of the Sith have never seemed this graphic and vibrant.

George was big on the Hero's Journey, and many include the death of the father in the Hero's journey. Either he's already dead, or the son must kill him, or the step in dad / real dad dies training / saving the son. The father or father like character dies.
If Disney writers stay true to the old stuff, and Luke is a mentor / father character, he will die.
But they could write him as a completely different kind of character or just do what Disney does and not have any heroes die.
Everything in this movie looks so, abrams. I don't know how to explain it, I guess it feels like it will be as much star wars as the new star trek was star trek. Which is not very much.
