Leia's reaction to her near the end of the film put that idea in my head too. It was too strong for a stranger but maybe not strong enough for a daughter.

I'm late to this party but here's what I'm pulling for:

- Luke has multiple promising students, including two who fall in love, making Rey. Rey is strong with the Force. (Explains her quick take to things.)
- Luke screws the pooch with his new Jedi training and Ben gets conflicted, especially with his parents fighting over dumb stuff. (In line with what was presented about Han & Leia.)
- Knights of Ren stuff happens, Ben accidentally helps to kill Rey's parents and other new Jedi, joins the Knights/founds them/whatever. (The reason Rey keeps seeing Ren in the flashbacks/dreams.)
- Luke, Han, and Leia make a pact to hide Rey from Ben on Jakku with the pig guy and the story about the Falcon. (She's the one with the story about the Falcon, and the only corroborator is Han. Explains why pig guy is trying so hard to keep her around when BB-8 stuff happens.)
- Luke tries to stop Ben, fails, goes into hiding as a result of his failure. (Because that's what Yoda did.)

It obviously needs to be fleshed out more with whatever the bulk of that backstory is but essentially: Make Rey the Force-sensitive daughter of a pair unrelated to the original protagonists, have her life turned upside down at an age young enough where her memory of it will be overwritten by a truly rough scavenger existence, that way she's a backup plan or can be removed from Jakku after things are safe.

But this is Disney. She's the daughter of Luke or Leia.

I think some of that is where they're going, just with Rey being a Skywalker in some way.

It would be much cooler for our main people to be entirely unrelated. Kylo is Ben Solo. Finn was snatched from his parents and raised as a Stormtrooper (or, a clone implanted with that idea). Poe is his own guy. Since Kylo Ren isn't a Sith, really, but something different, Rey could be some sort of new form of Jedi.

I still haven't seen it a second time. After the second viewing I'll have most of the backstory figured out.

OH - one thing I love about the people hating: "It's the same movie as A New Hope. They do all the same stuff with different characters!"

The same people on Kylo Ren: "He took his mask off twice, that's lame! Vader never took his mask off until the end!"

He really was snatched. Hux threatens Kylo with bringing in the clones if his special forces-type troops go off the reservation any more.
