Thread: Post Punk/ New Wave

  1. Post Punk/ New Wave

Ive been listening to a lot of Public Image LTD and Psychedelic Furs lately.
I found an old thread in which Scourge recommended some stuff, i am definitely going to check out The Tubeway Army album Replicants.
Any other suggestions aside from genre standards like Joy Division amd The Cure?

JOY DIVISION! JOY DIVISION! JOY DIVISION! AND THEN MAYBE NEW ORDER!

Mission of Burma. One of the only good American post punk bands (England rules this genre)
Gang of Four is the standard I measure most post punk bands by. "Entertainment" is the album to start with.
Track down stuff by "The Fuses" they were a Baltimore band in the 90's and they fucking KILLED. One of my all time favourite bands.
The Uniform is another awesome Baltimore band, but good luck with that one.
The Slugfuckers (Australia?) are alright too. Everything I've heard (not much) sounds like it was recorded in Satan's asshole.

    New/Active bands:
The Futureheads are good. Especially the first album.
Maximo Park has some post punk elements to it, but they're mostly power pop.
Check out Wire, kind of inaccessible because they're a bunch of weirdos.

If you remind me tomorrow afternoon I'll dig through my records and see what I'm forgetting. If I can help you, uh, find any of this stuff let me know.

    edit:

The Plan, Tubeway Army, and Replicas are all great records. Actually the entire Gary Numan "Asylum" collection is really worth picking up.

  3. Replicants, lol.
I listened to Replicas after i posted. Phenonimal. Of course ive heard Are Friends Electric before, but I'd never got into the whole album. I really dug it.
I will see what i can find of what you listed.

  4. Josh named some good ones.

    Also:
The Fall, The Plugz, early Talking Heads, The Contortions, The Stickmen, The Replacements (especially Tim and Let it Be), Sonic Youth...

Also post-hardcore stuff like Million Dead and Mclusky is pretty cool. Or like... Embrace and Fugazi for that matter.

Oh and for more New Wave-y stuff, Devo, Oingo Boingo, Elvis Costello, The Vapors (thanks, Josh), and some of Jim Carrol Band's stuff.

Nothing, but it's more pop than post-punk.
