I suspect it's just visual immersion, but who knows.

I could kind of see vision as a decent replacement for camera movement, but non-targeted third-person games with the Rift just initially sounds awkward to me.

I frankly can't wait to try any and every combination. I'm sure some won't work, but as you know it takes a lot less than an Oculus Rift supporting Steam version of Castlevania to get me excited.

Hell, even if the Rift is doing nothing but displaying a 100 inch tv where your brain should be and using conventional controls it's still pretty badass.
