I have abused the hell out of my 2008 Panasonic plasma. It's been playing almost nothing but videogames with fixed HUD objects (fighting games), sports with fixed scoreboards and tickers, and movies, nearly all of which are letterboxed or 4:3. I have had to adjust the brightness settings a few times with age, but that aside, it's the same as it was five years ago. I hope plasmas are still around when she dies.
