The comic holds up, the TV show is 80s cheese but still good on that level IMO.

80s Japan Cartoon Comedy done right: Patlabor TV and Dirty Pair. Why? They're not comedies! Great shows that just have a lot of fun, well-written characters.
Actually, for Dirty Pair replace "well-written characters" with "mayhem and explosions".
