Thread: Shadow of the Beast (PS4)

  1. #21
I had to Ctrl-F through 23 pages of GD to find this thread, thanks to the broken search.

Anyway, there's a new PlayStation Blog update. I really like the second screenshot, but this still looks early.

edit: Eurogamer also has a more detailed preview.

  2. Looks alright. I'll always give a game like this a chance. The Shadow of the Beast games were fucking garbage. I didn't like 'em anyways.

  3. That looks a lot better than I was expecting. Not totally sold on the button mashy beat em up stuff, but there's potential here.

I love the original. The gameplay feels stiff by modern standards but it felt like playing through an awesome fantasy painting. It was just so atmospheric and had a real sense of being a distinctive world. This new one also seems very atmospheric, if perhaps a bit too brown in its present state.

I agree. I'm a fan of the original. In the video above where they were talking about the music missing, I wanted to yell this at my monitor:

The song could have been written as the soundtrack to the game.

  5. Looks decent and the style looks on point.

Hopefully they'll improve the animation and stiffness how it looks, not sure what to think of the combat and platforming though so I hope there's a good balance there.

I was disappointed this wasn't shown during the conference yesterday, but apparently it is at PGW:

  7. This and No Mans Sky are about the only current gen games that interest me. The GoW combat model seems to break the pacing, hopefully it avoids being repetitive.

  8. I like that weird mouth fish monster, but I dunno. I don't have a lot of love for the original to start with.

  9. The SotB games were always technically impressive games with broken gameplay. This looks like a technically competent game with decent gameplay, so I guess that's progress.

My biggest concern out side of the gameplay is that there won't be enough to actually make it obviously a SotB game. It's potentially a lot like the Spanish Castlevanias in that way.
