After all this time and 620+ episodes, I still love me some One Piece. I'm also about to start Kill la Kill with my girlfriend on the hope that maybe it'll pay off. We also enjoyed Angel Beats and AnnoHanna. Beyond that... nothing. Just endless shows with teenage girls being far too cutesy to be believable, based on cliches that were parodies of cliches to begin with. Let me know if anything changes, though, because I do like a good animated series.

Seriously, Anime High School (to steal Daryl Surat's term) is getting tiresome.

Actually, speaking of Surat, his podcast Anime World Order is the only anime podcast I can actually listen to Fast Karate for the Gentlemen doesn't count because it's so, so much more. He theorizes that the reason there's so many fucked up, sexualized scenes in Japanese cartoons is that the government censors normal sexual interaction in their pornos. (his phrasing: "because they can't see the pink") I can definitely see that, especially if it's not normal to talk about healthy sex in Japanese culture.

(Silver Spoon is, to be fair, Another Goddamn Highschool Anime, but it takes place in an agricultural training school way out in the boonies and the most moe element was some cute-ass piglets. I really dug the first season.)

I liked girls und panzer, but its just a secret sports/school anime. Instead of overcoming their fear of that one time they lost the big soccer match at their old school, forcing them to move to the current school, they over come the day they lost the big tank game for their big sister.
