Risk of Rain might fit the bill. 2D sprite graphics, badass soundtrack, tight mechanics.

You might like Rogue Legacy also, but that's a little less awesome with the music, and the art is more SNES than NES.

EDIT - Also Chux, that's actually why I started this thread. There are so many indies out there that it's easy to forget about a key game or two. For as much hype as these games get (especially Fez) it's obviously nowhere near the exposure AAA games get. So that's why I'm trying to crowdsource my next indie with this thread, and I think it could be helpful to anyone else who is into this sort of thing as well. Thanks a lot to everyone, some amazing suggestions so far
