When I was in high school we had an Industrial Arts course that was basically a printing class. I got to play with a unit similar enough to this lead type machine that it might even be the same model-



All that steampunk stuff with gears that do nothing but provide visual noise makes this machine sad.

machines from that period are beautiful. What they could do with complex machines and simple electronics was amazing. And the curves the cast metal pieces. And the exotic paint finishes.

No one bothers with any of that anymore. Its all sheet metal stamped into random shit with some shitty flat black paint. Shit sucks? Fix it in the code.
