While I'm digging the look well enough (in that, I didn't think 4 looked bad and 5 is more of that), I agree. If they want to keep the revival-crowd and not just the FGC, making it an upgrade to 4 isn't gonna cut it. I don't know what they do, but going deeper down Third Strike territory would be a huge mistake. If their goal is just to please the FGC, then I wouldn't know what a good direction would be.

  4. Being perfectly honest, SF2 compared to other SF games (Alpha, 3 specifically) is quite goofy and cartoonish. So having the overly bulgy, super-forearmed style of SF4 makes sense.

  5. Are you saying Alpha 3 isn't goofy and cartoonish because I have a boxer who would like to have some words with you.

I love how the SF2 characters would barf if you hit 'em in the stomach, I miss that.

Speaking of Playstation and Street Fighter, the SF2 ports on the PS1 are goddamn amazing, I've been playing those a bit lately.

  7. I need to revisit those, the "Arcade Collection" ports all seem slightly off.

The PS2 collection plays fine, but the 480i resolution doesn't look right. the PS1 versions output at the proper resolution. Playing on a PS2 virtually eliminates loading between rounds as well.

  9. I guess I look at Alpha as the animu Street Fighter. And like any animu with fighting, takes itself too seriously to be goofy even if that makes it goofier in context

Like, Alpha 'works' because it's style up and down seems to gel - SF2 seems to contradict itself with more rendered coloring but puffy muscles. So...that's why I dig SF4. It's got stupid proportions, painterly textures, goofy over-exaggerated facial animations, and I love it for that. It really feels like it's trying to be a 3D SF2.
