You should type some more about that Shining laserdisc instead. Is it the version that Kubrick edited down, or the long one?
It's the 144 minute cut, so it doesn't have the coda at the end like the theatrical version. I wasn't alive for that version, so I have no idea what I'm missing.
It's not the super chopped down version, that one's 113 minutes and is supposedly 'the director's cut'.

PS-- got the game working by deleting all local files and installing to a secondary HDD. Whatever they did scorched the earth against using my main HD, apparently.

I wish I could refund this trash. Netcode still sucks, the season pass is still worthless and the publisher has done and said every hostile thing they could to the people buying this overhyped, overpriced sack of shit.
Funny thing is I still like the actual game just fine. They keep relentlessly shoveling nonsense on top of that.
The netcode is fine from here, YMMV.
