Thread: HDMI switches and audio options

  1. #11
    HDMI is audio and video.

  2. That's what I figured, but some of the cables came with 3.5mm cables, so I wasn't 100% sure. So the simple VGA-HDMI cable is enough?

If you're going from hdmi to vga or vice versa you're only gonna be passing video.

Yeah, so no matter the solution, as some point you also have to deal with your laptop's audio. I might go with that box you posted, as I'm assuming that takes the video from VGA and the audio from a headphone jack to headphone jack cable, and then mixes then together to output over HDMI.

Otherwise, if you get the VGA > HDMI cable, you'll still have to introduce a second audio cable, but you'll now also need to figure out how to run it into the television to get audio at the same time as you're using that HDMI port.

  5. If your lap top has HDMI out you only need the HDMI cable.

It seems like laptop has VGA out and the TV has HDMI in.

I have a Monoprice vga to hdmi adapter I'd sell you really cheap if your interested. I used to use it with the Dreamcast. It worked ok, but did done nasty color space conversions.

  8. I bought the box I posted. Hopefully, that will be enough.
