Space Witch Leia was a terrible shot. It's cool that she used the Force, she's Luke's sister and all, but they should have placed her closer to the ship and made it a more subtle, unconscious glide back over to the door, it was too jarring to take someone that hasn't shown any force affinity before and then have 'em just suddenly Superman their ass through space.
I also liked the red herring about Rey's parentage! I hope it's not undone. It's a good thing to get away from the whole universe revolving around the Skywalkers.
I didn't mind the spirit of the casino planet jaunt, but it super-bugged me that everything was so... Earthy. Star Wars is a series of far-flung space civilizations, "a casino for rich aliens" shouldn't literally be "a posh earth-style casino with people in earth-style tuxedos but some of the people are aliens!"
...it's the first sentence of what you quoted. Vader chokes out dude that mocked his old religious ways- referring to the force.
We're just one species on one planet and we have how many religions? Yet these ancient aliens from multiple worlds only ever talk about one religion, The Force, and never has it been given a "godly" anthropomorphism.
I was going to argue a polite society doesn't mercilessly enslave and/or eradicate entire populations of sentient beings. Colonial England shut me up.
I watched it.
I didn't even hear anyone say godspeed.
It did sound like Snoke was quoting Matthew 25, though."His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant!"
Yeah, I wasn't in a rush to see this until the backlash hit. Then I knew I had to see it before getting spoiled too much.
It did a great job of not living up to fan expectations. Which I'm glad for, The Force Awakens did that just fine and I really didn't want to see another of those. It was kind of jarring to see them repeatedly take plot points and flippantly reject them, but I think it's better for it.
I like when Snoke critiqued Kylo with all the stuff viewers were saying about him after the first movie, and Kylo smashes the helmet. There were more parts before that, but that was the most explicit "we're not doing Force Awakens anymore" statement.
I think the humor was a little too over the top. I didn't like the opening Poe humor at all. The porgs, too. Not that the humor and porgs took over any scenes, but it felt like they were just trying to keep young children interested. Which then felt odd because they gave it a PG-13 rating.
Why are you reading this? go to your general settings and uncheck the Show Signatures box already!
I liked the porgs . Chewie with the one in his hands at the campfire was hilarious.
Korly-"Everyone here is an asshole, SURPRISE!"
6/10, it'll probably be the best of the new trilogy and I applaud rian johnson for doing esb out of order instead of beat for beat like abrams did with anh/tfa
So just saw it. I liked most of it right until the end. OK wtf with Luke. Heart attack? Ascended? I get it he's a jedi ghost now, or at least will be so he can be Obi Wan in the next one, but seriously? Was he force projecting himself into everyone's mind on that planet and that's why?
I think the Porgs were good until they were fucking everywhere. I started to think they were Tribbles. The scene where Chewie BBQ's one is awesome. Are the other Porgs thinking it smells good and want a taste? Or do they know and are they judging Chewie for eating them?
I was enjoying Snoke up until his untimely demise.
I liked a lot of what happened in the story.
It felt a bit like they smushed Empire and Jedi together, but not so overtly like Awakens did. Just little hints of it. A throne room thing, an attempt to turn a baddie, a walker assault of sorts, etc.
Kylo becoming his own man was the best thing that could have happened to the character, which had potential despite being an emo bitch last movie. Not being able to shoot Leia only to have his wingmen take the shot was awesome.
The stuff with Poe was just dumb.
Finn actually got some character development and was far less of a fucking stupid character this time around. Much less of a goofy comedy side character.
I think there was probably too much comedy. Too many Porgs as I mentioned, but also in the throne room scene it was less dramatic than it should have been due to the comedy bits that were thrown in. Funny as it was to watch Rey get smacked in the head with a light saber.
The movie did just enough to explain the First Order a little bit more, far more than Force Awakens did.
Yoda looks weird the first time you get a good look at him. And I'm not sure if he's CG or a puppet, or a rotoscoped version of the Empire footage. Also he seemed like he was pretty high on weed.
edit: re Ackbar His voice actor died so they decided to kill off the character.
