It's a gigantic part of their brand and history, I'm not sure they are even able to give it up.
According to the Nikkei, Nintendo will both cease Wii U production and unveil the NX this year. It apparently does not state that the NX will necessarily launch this year, but it seems like at least half of it has to at this point.
You never know, Saturn stopped production well before DC launched.
Right, but I mean from a software perspective. Nintendo can't just not release anything for six months or whatever.

Just because hardware production stops, doesn't mean they aren't releasing any software. The gamecube had a period where they stopped production of it in the middle of it's lifespan.
